Summary
Two core problems: you can't measure anything (no analytics installed), and your indexed traffic is probably the wrong audience (about 99% of sitemap URLs are quiz and chemical pages, which draw exam-prep students and techs rather than owners buying software). On top of that, the offer is unclear (trial vs. free tier vs. paid), parts of the copy contradict each other, and there's little proof or human contact path.
Tags: evidence means observed directly in the site source. guess means an inference that needs data to confirm.
Analytics findings
- Google Analytics: not installed. No gtag.js, no GA4 (G-) or UA- ID, no Tag Manager container, no google-analytics.com script on the homepage or
/start-free. - Cloudflare Web Analytics: not installed. No beacon.min.js, no cloudflareinsights.com reference, no data-cf-beacon attribute.
- No Meta pixel or Microsoft Clarity either.
- The Content Security Policy already allows googletagmanager.com and google-analytics.com, so GA was likely planned or removed.
- First-party scripts exist:
/api/modules/customer-journey/beacon.js(posts UTM and session data to/api/modules/customer-journey/track) and/api/modules/apex-vitals/beacon.js. Check whether anyone reads that data. - The site is proxied by Cloudflare (response headers show it). No Cloudflare API keys or login were available to me, so I can't see dashboard traffic. Enabling Cloudflare Web Analytics is one click on a proxied site.
What the site looks like today
- Homepage: founder-led and well written. Headline "Run your whole pest business — and put your smartest tech in every truck." Primary CTA "Get Started →", secondary "See live demos". Founder story (30 years in pest control, three companies, $189/page SEO) and a "no success tax" message.
- Pricing: transparent. A nine-vendor
/comparesection exists. - Title/meta: "The website platform built for pest-control pros", with a solid meta description.
- Signup (
/start-free): two steps. Step 1: business name, email, phone, city, state, site type. Step 2: domain choice, plan, truck count. No card field seen in the HTML; not fully traced. - Newsletter ("Insider List"): lower on the homepage; name, company, email, 2-letter state. Pitch: pest alerts, insider pricing, free listing upgrade.
- robots.txt: fine. Blocks
/register,/checkout, demo and example paths. - Sitemap: 1,673 URLs, 1,661 of them
/quiz2/.... About 11 sales pages. - Schema (JSON-LD): none found on homepage, compare, features, lifetime, about or pest-news.
- Speed: HTML responses 0.16–0.34s behind Cloudflare. No Lighthouse or Core Web Vitals test run.
Ranked reasons signups are failing
No measurement evidence
No analytics, pixels or session replay. You can't tell whether the problem is traffic or conversion.Traffic is probably the wrong audience guess
About 99% of indexed pages are quiz and chemical pages. Nothing is built to catch buyer-intent searches.Unclear offer and free-tier confusion evidence
The site says "Sign up free", "Cancel anytime" and promises a free listing upgrade, while pricing shows only three paid tiers./start-freesays "every feature unlocked" and a free subdomain "included free". Trial, free tier, or paid plan? Competitors say "14-day free trial, no card."Contradictory copy evidence
"Live in 3 days" vs. "15 minutes". FAQ says plans scale with truck count and are priced by content pages, versus "One price. However many trucks you run."First step is a commitment guess
Phone and city are requested before any value is shown. No quick "see my site" step.Weak social proof evidence
Only one demo tenant ("Pest Trappers (demo)"). No logos, testimonials or numbers.Newsletter friction and weak hook evidence guess
Low on the page, four fields, vague "insider pricing", no lead magnet. No human path evidence
Contact is a form only. No call booking or phone number on the sales pages.
Top 5 highest-leverage fixes
1. Install analytics this week
- Add GA4 or Plausible, plus Clarity or Hotjar for session replay. Optionally also turn on Cloudflare Web Analytics.
- Track events: CTA click, step 1 submit, step 2 submit, newsletter submit, demo click.
- Put UTM tags on every offline link (QR codes, flyers, billboard).
2. Make the offer concrete
Pick one: a 14-day free trial with no card, or a free site on a pestcontroller.org subdomain with an upgrade for custom domain and SEO. Then say it once, everywhere.
- Remove the "live in 3 days" line.
- Remove the per-truck language from the FAQ.
3. Cut signup to one short step and show a preview
- Collect email and business name only, then show a generated site preview.
- Lead with Tiptoe, your strongest differentiator, which is currently buried.
4. Fix the traffic
- Build indexable buyer pages: "pest control software for small companies", "vs GorillaDesk / PestPac / FieldRoutes", "pest control website cost".
- Add Organization, SoftwareApplication and FAQ schema.
- Add owner-focused CTAs on quiz pages, where your traffic actually is.
5. Add proof and a human option
- Founder video and 2–3 real customer quotes or results.
- A "Book a 15-minute walkthrough" calendar link.
- Move the newsletter higher or to exit-intent, with a real lead magnet such as a state-specific compliance checklist or a city × pest SEO page template.
How competitors market and convert
| Vendor | Pricing | Trial / sales path |
|---|---|---|
| GorillaDesk | $49 / $99 / $149 published | 14-day trial, no card |
| Jobber | From about $29–49/mo | 14-day trial |
| FieldRoutes | Hidden | Demo only, says no trial |
| PestPac / Briostack | Hidden | Demo-led sales |
| ServiceTitan | Quote-based (third-party estimates $245–500/mo, unconfirmed) | Demo-led |
Every vendor that publishes prices also offers a self-serve trial. Your $99.95 is mid-range against GorillaDesk's $99 Pro, and your product is broader (website, SEO, compliance), but you have no trial. Sources are third-party trackers (PestGrade, Solea, dated Aug–Sep 2026) except FieldRoutes.
PestWorld 2026 plan (Oct 20–23, Gaylord Texan, Grapevine TX)
It's two days away, so keep it light. A booth isn't realistic now. The parking lot is open to everyone.
Before you go
- Finish fixes 1 and 2 (analytics and a concrete offer).
- Create
pestcontroller.org/pestworldwith a QR code and one offer, e.g. "PestWorld special: free site build, no card". - Print flyers or door hangers with the QR code, tracked by UTM. Add a PestWorld-only newsletter form.
At the event
- Work the parking lot and talk to people. Registration is $870 regular and $1,375 nonmember, so it's a lot to spend if you don't need to.
- Show the live demo on a phone or tablet.
- Collect emails, and run Tiptoe on 3–5 prospects' sites to send a demo the next day.
Billboard recommendation
Weak on its own. Car signage reaches a random public, and a URL like pestcontroller.org gets few typed-in visits. It only makes sense at the Gaylord parking lot, with a QR code, one short hook line and a UTM-tracked landing page. Don't drive around town. Put that effort into analytics, the offer and the traffic fixes first.
Caveats
- I couldn't see traffic numbers, search data, or what the first-party beacon reports.
- "Likely" reasons are inferences from page source. Install analytics and re-check in two weeks.
- No forms were submitted. The signup flow wasn't fully traced.
- Competitor data is from third-party sources except where noted.
